Green Corps is an urban agricultural work-study program for high school teens that was started in 1996 by the Cleveland Botanical Garden, now a part of Holden Forests & Gardens with the Holden Arboretum. For more than 20 years, we have employed more than 1,000 youth who work at urban farms in the Midtown, Slavic Village, Fairfax and Buckeye-Woodland communities. Each year, students spend the growing season learning the basics of urban farming, raising crops on the farms Cleveland’s eastside neighborhoods, and then selling what they produce at farmers markets and farm stands. In addition to a paycheck, the students each get a 4’x8’ bed to grow produce for home use. They also gain a wide variety of skills and forge new friendships.
